Reflectors & lenses: What?s there in the market?

- Oct 09, 2018-

Currently, many new LEDs feature relatively large light-emitting-surfaces (LES) and the trend towards COB LEDs makes reflector solutions even more attractive. An optimum design for LED lighting needs both good quality reflectors and lenses. Today, these are made with excellent material to optimize high luminous flux delivered by the COB LED modules. The right choice of these optics depends on LED lighting application, and an understanding of what it takes to achieve the highest in lighting performance.

Carclo Optics?s mid-power array

Currently, mid-power packaged LEDs are being increasing used in different applications like in linear-type applications where a number of LEDs are used which give out less light. With Carclo Optics? expertise in designing and manufacturing technically difficult optical solutions, they have now created a mid-power array for such applications. This is a large compact 84 free-form array built specifically for the common 5630 and similar packages that produces an asymmetric beam pattern for the use of an LPS (low pressure sodium) replacement system. The optics are manufactured using high quality polycarbonate designed to give the best performance and lifespan.

Fraen?s multi-TIR nested lens

Nested TIR lens technology is an ideal solution for chip-on-board (COB) LED applications, especially where narrow beam illumination patterns are required. Fraen Corporation has recently introduced new multi-TIR nested lens technology for COB LEDs. These deliver narrow beam lighting when used with a variety of COB LEDs. This technology allows the optic height to be reduced significantly when compared to reflectors with similar optical performance while delivering maximum on-axis intensity with reduced spill. The compact design delivers collimated beam. Other key benefits are: full control of the entire COB LED radiation pattern to put spilled/wasted light into the center beam (higher center-beam candela per lumen and reduced off-axis glare); and reduced overall optic height, to reduce cost and weight, and to allow reduced luminaire thickness and/or space for driver electronics and heat sink volume. The company claims that lamps and luminaires that use these lens will be lower in profile than reflector-based optical designs and deliver better beam control.

Khatod?s Kristall COB TIR lens

Khatod?s latest optical solutions for COB LEDs come from KRISTALL, the first-of-its-kind range of optics in the form of total internal reflection (TIR) lenses. These lenses are available in 78 mm, 90 mm and 110 mm in diameter, and are fit for COB LEDs. The high purity and transparency of these lenses are made of good quality materials and the special injection-moulding technology implemented by Khatod in the production process. The lenses are made of polymethyl methacrylate or polycarbonate as per the requirement of a beam spread in an application. These lenses give out narrow, medium, and wide beam spreads. The lenses offer 85% efficiency.
