According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the number of deaths amongst bicyclists increased by19%. One of the major reasons is that cyclists are not very visible, particularly at night.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, therefore, recommended that bicyclist should wear reflective clothing and active lighting that will make them visible at night.
One company has developed a line of apparel, which has embedded LED lights. These LED lights are smarter and can be customized to do several functions.
These jackets with LEDs look like regular, fashionable apparel when the lights are not on. These LED lights when paired with the app (Android and iOS) and use GPS, mapping (Google Maps API), and gyros, the user can configure the LEDs to function many actions. For example, when a cyclist wants to a stop, the LEDs on the back of the jacket turn on to simulate a red brake light, or flash orange to signal a turn or a strobe mode when crossing an intersection. These signals warn nearby motorists of a cyclist?s presence, but and about his or her next move.
The LEDs illuminate to indicate if you?re falling behind or overexerting yourself. A user can also choose the colors to differentiate the different activities.
