How does this type of light differ from what is used today?

A. Ordinary incandescent bulbs are little electric heaters that also make some light. Most of the energy is used to produce heat, not light. The more energy you use to create heat, the less efficient the light is. LED's have no filament to break so they last longer and are much more vibration resistant than ordinary incandescent light bulbs. Additionally, LEDs draw about 90% less wattage than incandescents and half the wattage of fluorescent lighting. They are safer because they do not contain hazardous materials.
